LACE + HOOK-AND-EYE CLOSURES = BUSINESS ATTIRE DISASTER
I’m an idiot. I was half awake this morning when I got dressed and put on an outfit that’s forcing me to endure an endless series of indignities. It’s a skirt that’s overlaid with lace, and a cardigan that has hook-and-eye closures. Separately these two items of clothing are fine for work, but together they’re an unmitigated disaster.
I met first thing this morning with the VP of my department and our external auditors. During the meeting I was leaning forward over the conference table reading some statistics off of a spreadsheet, and, unbeknownst to me, the hook part of one of the hook-and-eye clasps caught on the lace at the bottom of my skirt. When I stood up at the end of the meeting, my skirt was suddenly hiked up to just above mid-thigh. To make matters worse, I had to lean forward into an awkward position to release the clasp’s stranglehold on the lace at my knee.
As dictated by the unwritten code of etiquette for business, everyone pretended not to notice, but, if they’re anything like me, they were laughing hysterically on the inside. Over the course of the day I’ve exposed myself to my innocent coworkers twice more.
I guess it could be worse. At least I remembered to shave my legs.
ON THE BOOB TUBE
I just started watching the first season of Footballers’ Wives on DVD this weekend. That show is utterly ridiculous, hilarious and addictive all at once. My favorite part so far is the weirdo nurse taking sexual advantage of the fat, old guy in a coma. That scene was absolutely priceless, and I forced every person that came over to my place this weekend to watch it. Most were appalled.
I also saw the pilot for Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and I predict that it will do well. I like the casting, and the tone of the show is a lot of fun. The humor is intelligent and fast paced, and a melancholy sort of mood overshadows the whole thing. Which for some reason I like.
For someone that doesn’t have cable, I’m oddly obsessed with television shows lately.*
*Though pretty much strictly through DVD.
